fleche bleue Sarro Artists List

Adelio Sarro Sobrinho was born in 1950 on a farm near Sao Paulo, Brazil. Helping his parents, he then worked as a carpenter, quarry worker and many other professions, always drawing and sketching hard working characters. Inspired by artists Portinari, Rivera, Picasso, he began his career in 1972 as a full time painter and sculptor of monumental projects, including his recent masterpiece, the stations of the Cross for the Cathedral of Aparecida. Stain glass has become one of his favorite mediums to capture light and create sacred art. Sarro paints characters with strong hands and large bare feet, melancholic witnesses of the hardships of agrarian world. Peaceful animals and small instruments soften the scenes but the strong momentum remains. Always present is the seducing and luminous blue color, because he "likes it this way", with wonderful transparencies.
Sarro's monumental sculptures are internationally recognized and his paintings are now shown in exhibitions on all continents, the latest and most important venue being museums (Moscow, Leningrad). Sarro is a giant artist who incarnates the spirit of South America . His art is becoming universal and should reach the highest fame in the years to come.
